No emulator needed: Super Mario Bros. Wonder runs natively on the Apple chip. How nxnative compares with emulators

How Super Mario Bros. Wonder runs
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is where nxnative started. It was the first game of the nxnative repository, and much of the project's groundwork was built while bringing it up, so it is one of the most exercised Games on the list. It plays on the iPhone. When the project developers last published sizes, its iPhone app came to about 4 GB.
How it runs
Wonder targets 60 fps. When a frame runs long, the game itself briefly switches to a slower frame pace and catches up, as it does on the Switch. After players noticed the game seeming to speed up during jumps, the way nxnative presents those frames was reworked, and the catch-up frames now stay on screen for their full length.
Versions
nxnative records the base game (1.0.0), update 1.0.1 and update 1.2.1, and packs 1.2.1 by default. If you bring both the base game and the 1.2.1 update, put them in the same folder: the script layers the update over the base game.
Controls
The Packed app starts in the 2D touch layout (left stick, face buttons, shoulders, minus and plus), which suits a side-scrolling platformer. The layout button at the top centre switches layouts in game.
Good to know
- On the Mac, menu and dialogue text currently renders blank, while the same text displays correctly on iPhone. If you want to read the story, play on iPhone.
Known issues
- On the Mac, menu and dialogue text shows up blank. It displays correctly on iPhone.
Packing command
Run this in your nxnative folder on the Build Mac. Replace the game folder and the keys path with your own. Add --platform mac-app to get a Mac app instead of an iPhone and iPad app.
