No emulator needed: FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster runs natively on the Apple chip. How nxnative compares with emulators

How FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster runs
This collection plays on the Mac. Testing covered the collection menu, the opening scene of Final Fantasy X with sound, and the first battle of Final Fantasy X-2, including targeting, attacks, defeating enemies and spell effects. With both add-on content packs included, the iPhone app came to about 26.5 GB when the project developers last published sizes, and it has not been tested on a device.
How it runs
The collection is unusual: its menu and both games are spread across more than 1,400 small code modules that load and unload as you switch between them. nxnative previously had a limit that this collection exceeded, which a player reported. How these modules are tracked and loaded has been reworked, for every game, and switching from the menu into either game now works.
Version and add-on content
Tested on the base game, version 1.0.0, with both add-on content packs, which hold Final Fantasy X-2 and the collection's extra movies. Put them in the same folder as the base game before you Pack.
Controls
The Packed app starts in the 2D touch layout. From the collection menu, A starts Final Fantasy X; press Down twice and then A for X-2. With no save, X-2 first reports that there is no saved data: dismiss it and choose New Game.
Good to know
- At about 26.5 GB, the Packed app is likely too big for many sideloading setups. nxnative's packing script can keep the game files out of the app with
--romfs separate. - Final Fantasy X's battles, later areas, Eternal Calm, Last Mission and the bonus movies have not been checked.
Known issues
- It has not yet been played on iPhone.
Packing command
Run this in your nxnative folder on the Build Mac. Replace the game folder and the keys path with your own. Add --platform mac-app to get a Mac app instead of an iPhone and iPad app.
