How Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker runs

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker plays on both the Mac and the iPhone. When the project developers last published sizes, its Packed app came to about 2 GB. It needed no change to nxnative itself: it shares its engine family with Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey.

How it runs

On the Mac, it plays through the opening course and the cutscene after it, the title menu, the first save, the Episode 1 book with its first course, and the Special Episode's book from the add-on content, all at 60 fps. After three minutes in a course memory use sat at about 950 MB and stayed flat.

Controls

The Packed app starts in the 3D touch layout: a left stick, a D-pad and the face buttons, with a right stick that is not drawn. Touch anywhere in the right third of the screen that has no control on it, and that touch works as the right stick.

The game runs in handheld mode so that its touch features work. In the 3D layout, touches outside the controls and outside the right third of the screen go to the game's own touch screen, so you can tap blocks and stun enemies with your finger as on the Switch.

Good to know

  • If you own the Special Episode add-on, it was tested and its book opens.
  • Tested with update 1.4.2. Other versions may behave differently.

Packing command

Run this in your nxnative folder on the Build Mac. Replace the game folder and the keys path with your own. Add --platform mac-app to get a Mac app instead of an iPhone and iPad app.

python3 scripts/build_ipa_from_nsp.py ~/Games/captain-toad-treasure-tracker -k ~/keys/prod.keys
