How Kirby Star Allies runs
Kirby Star Allies plays on the Mac, at 30 fps in the stages and 60 fps on the title. It has been tested through the opening, the World of Peace map and the first part of Green Gardens. No iPhone or iPad app has been built yet.
How it runs
On the Mac, from an empty save and from a saved file, the opening movie, the title, file select, the update notices, the movie after the first file start, the World of Peace map and the first rooms of Green Gardens all run. Kirby walks, jumps, floats, attacks and inhales, goes through a door and makes a friend with a Friend Heart, who then follows as a computer partner; a copy ability prompt appears along the way. A session of about six minutes showed no crash and flat memory.
The stages run at 30 fps with steady frame times. Whether that is also the game's own rate on the Switch was not checked; the Mac is not what holds it there.
Memory came to about 4.0 GB in Green Gardens and stayed nearly flat over about 15 minutes.
Grass, ground and trees that were too dark, a mostly black World of Peace map, and both movies playing black are fixed.
Bring update 4.0.0a
Tested with update 4.0.0a. Put it in the same folder as the base game before you Pack.
Controls
The Packed app starts in the 2D touch layout.
- A goes through the title, file select and the update notices.
- In a stage, A jumps and floats, B attacks and inhales, and X throws a Friend Heart.
- The tutorial stops at a door, which you enter with up, and later waits for X before it goes on.
Good to know
- On a fresh save the opening movie runs for about 46 seconds; the update notices and Dream Friends pages then take about a minute of A presses, followed by a movie of about 84 seconds before the map.
- Memory use is higher when the game's prebuilt shader archive sits on an external drive: about 5.1 GB instead of 4.0 GB, because its 1.13 GB is then read into memory.
Known issues
- No iPhone or iPad app has been built or tested yet; memory may be the first limit there.
- No stage has been finished in testing, so bosses, stage clears, Dream Friends, co-op and sub-games are untested.
- Sound has not been listened to.
Packing command
Run this in your nxnative folder on the Build Mac. Replace the game folder and the keys path with your own. Add --platform mac-app to get a Mac app instead of an iPhone and iPad app.
