No emulator needed: Streets of Rage 4 runs natively on the Apple chip. How nxnative compares with emulators

How Streets of Rage 4 runs
Streets of Rage 4 plays on the Mac at 60 fps. Tested in a short gameplay check: the publisher logos and the intro movie, the title and its menus, a Story mode save slot, difficulty and character select, the opening text crawl, then stage 1 as Axel with walking, combos and enemies knocked down. A second start showed the save at "Stage 1 – Normal", so saving and loading work. No iPhone app has been built yet.
How it runs
Stage 1 held a steady 60 fps. Two fixes made for this game now apply to every game: one stopped the game's memory cleanup from freeing data another thread was still holding, which happened in two starts out of three, and one fixed a black screen during the movies.
On the Mac the game used about 1.85 GB of memory at the title and about 2.6 GB in stage 1, where it levelled off.

Controls
The Packed app starts in the 2D touch layout. Plus skips the intro movie and pauses the game, X skips the opening text crawl, Y attacks and A jumps.
Good to know
- The first start finds no save, as on a new console; the game creates one.
- Only the start of stage 1 has been played so far.
Known issues
- Only the start of stage 1 has been played; later stages and the Arcade, Boss Rush and Battle modes have not been checked.
- Two-player play and the other languages have not been tested.
- The sound played without dropouts, but nobody has listened to it yet.
- It has not been tried on iPhone, and no iPhone app has been built.
